Software

The BEoptâ„¢ (Building Energy Optimization Tool) software provides capabilities to evaluate residential building designs and identify cost-optimal efficiency packages at various levels of whole-house energy savings along the path to zero net energy.

The Department of Hygrothermics at Fraunhofer IBP has developed the WUFI® software family for state-of-the-art hygrothermic analysis. WUFI® performs dynamic simulations of coupled heat and moisture transfer. The methods have been validated world wide and provide realistic simulation of hygrothermal conditions in building components and buildings under actual climate conditions.

Materials

(basic information on a lot of materials but has approximate construction costs for elements of a building)

I started designing a tiny home for our potential lot in the Catskills (have not yet put down the deposit, but we are dreaming!) because I wanted to get a sense of what we could get for the money.

A construction company in Rochester NY said new home construction would be about $100/SF. I did a quick 3D sketch of a 400SF tiny home that was very basic, so total cost would be $40,000.

Then I found this (pictures below), that is remarkably like what I designed, for a construction cost of $34,500. It is nice to have my numbers validated!
